Netra Basti is a traditional Ayurvedic eye treatment in which hot medicinal ghee, or clarified butter, is used to cleanse and relax the eyes. This unique therapy is performed using a dough ring around the eyes, into which the ghee is gently poured. By rhythmically opening and closing the eyes, the treatment helps relieve eye complaints, such as fatigue and blurred vision, and promotes the recovery of vision.
What to expect
Netra Basti experience
At the Netra Basti therapy you are first prepared with a relaxing head, neck and face massage. This massage calms you down and stimulates circulation, which is essential for soothing the pitta element in your body.
The therapy itself takes about 30 minutes. During this time, warm ghee is applied around the eyes and you guide your eyes in a rhythmic movement. After the treatment, you are given time to still 15 minutes in silence with eyes closed (or open) relax. This combination of care and rest ensures that you not only feel physical relief but also relax mentally. Depending on your symptoms, the treatment can be repeated several times for optimal results.
